HOT POP

Shuttsie’s Hot Pop Slot with The Severn's Paul Shuttleworth.

Well we are approaching the august bank holiday weekend the last bank holiday till Christmas … it’s all down hill from here but not musically as artist concentrate on there Christmas work including Sir Cliff Richard who is celebrating his golden anniversary 50 years in music with a 50 years best off collection and a new single Thank You For A Lifetime which is basically a story of Cliffs musical career the single is out on September 8th and the album follows the week after.

Following the Huge success of the single Closer Neyo is back with the Incredible follow up single Miss Independent a mid tempo, addictive and lyrically genius slice of Pop R&B. This is the second single from the album The Year Of The Gentleman and I sure this will be playing on the radio well into the autumn.

Sarah Whatmore has a single out on September 8th Smile which show cases her amazing voice beautifully it’s a great easy listening radio song. There are three radio edits the first is a soft gentle track the second mixed by Bimbo Jones is a club style dance version and the beat is infections it’s definite floor filler. The third is again a club version but this one has a slightly edger feel to it Vito Benito has created more of an early doors wind up version.

One Republic have a new single Mercury which is more of there natural style that One Republic they did with Timberland but to be fair that did give them the break they needed to allow them to find there musical feet and it seams to have worked for them as they now on there second album Dreamin Out Loud. The Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson is making her foray into the music scene with Spotlight written and produced Ne-Yo and I think this is destined for the top 10 when its released on 22nd September

In the clubs Steve Mac Paddy’s Revenge is kick up a stink in the club world its kind of a touch of Irish Jig with a dance beat morphed together its not really my cup of tea but it does seam to be making waves in the dance circles and particular on the holiday locations and the BBC are using it as the sound bed for there TV and radio campaign so there will be no getting away from it. My favorite club track this week is 2-Play featuring Maxi Priest That’s What Girl Wants it has that deep bouncing beat and Maxi’s deep vocals the combination works amazingly well its going to big a big tune keep your eyes open for it , it will be in the shops on September 22nd.

This weeks new Hip Hop & R&B include Common Featuring Pharell Universal Mind Control is taken from the album Invincible Summer. This track is an up-tempo electro influenced Hip Hop track, it’s a very busy track with plenty going on.

Hydon the lead singer of Ultimate Kaos who had a hit with Casanova and Some Girls (no I can’t remember them) either has a solo single called Get Into You which has a whooping 7 mixes on it, I only listened to the first one to be honest and that was a very club friendly upbeat pop track that I don’t think is going to a big hit there is nothing wrong with it, having said that it doesn’t stand out either.

New in Hot Pop the Radio show Mark Wilson will be giving his thoughts on the films out at the cinema. Listen out during Hot Pop on Sunday night from 9pm or if you cant wait read the review in full with The Odeon Cinema.
