Reception Advice
This section has been designed
to help you improve reception of 107.1 The Severn in weak
signal areas.
107.1 The Severn broadcasts live on FM across Oswestry and
North Shropshire. Our transmitter is located at Sellatyn
just outside Oswestry, if you are any distance away from
our transmitter reception can be improved using the following
methods:
Improving Reception on your Hi-Fi
Most Hi-Fi units bought these days
are packed with a basic wire or T-shaped ribbon antenna.
If you have this style of aerial try moving it around the
room to improve reception.
Your Hi-Fi may also have an external aerial socket on the
back of the unit, this will allow you to plug in an outdoor
antenna in the same way as your TV antenna goes into the
back of your digibox/tv.
Any outdoor aerial will reduce interference
and improve the signal strength vastly. There are various
types of antenna available and your best to speak to a verified
antenna installer when choosing the correct one to use.
Improving Reception on your Portable
Radio
Portable radio's are mostly always
supplied with telescopic aerial, to get the best reception
always make sure that its fully extended and try adjusting
its position by tilting and swiveling the aerial around
until you get the best signal.
You can also try moving the radio around the room as FM
radio reception varies greatly over short distances, even
a few feet or centimetres can make a great difference.
Positioning your radio by a window can also improve reception
of 106.5 The Severn. If this does not work try switching
your radio to mono.
Improving Reception on Personal Stereo's
Personal stereos and radios built into mobile phones often
use the headphone lead as an aerial, to get the best reception
make sure this is unwound fully.
Improving Reception in your Car
When listening to The Severn your car, you are probably
constantly moving in and out of weak and strong signal area's
due to the landscape and buildings blocking our signal.
Most car radio's will automatically switch to mono and filter
out high frequencies when the signal is weak in order to
eliminate background hiss.
If your car radio has an AF or TP function we recommend
you turn this off when listening to The Severn at a distance
from our transmitter. This can cause your radio to look
for a better signal when the current one becomes too weak.
