Benefit cheats to face clampdown
Benefit cheats in North Shropshire are being watched by the council in a new crackdown.

North Shropshire District Council have recovered Almost £47,000 from people falsley claiming Housing Benefit and a further £7,000 from those wrongly claiming Council Tax.

Their Fraud Investigation Team is currently monitoring claims to combat those benefit cheats. They have urged resident not to hesitate about telling them if they know of anyone fraudulently claiming money they’re not entitled to.

Residents vote in favour of restricted parking
Residents in Shropshire town have voted in favour of restricted parking in on roads during match days.

It’s to discourage football fans from parking on the streets around the New Meadow Stadium, in Shrewsbury.

Sutton Farm was the only area to respond favourably to such a zone, with more than a third supporting the idea. People around Meole Brace mainly opposed the idea, so won’t be included in the scheme.

It’s also hope it’ll encourage more use of alternative transport, including the Park & Ride service.

Oswestry’s Orthopaedic Hospital praised

Oswestry’s Orthopaedic hospital has been praised by the Royal College of Surgeons. They were at the hospital to gain some insight into their clinical activities, research, as well as the way they teach.

According to medical director, Professor Iain McCall, the college were very positive and complimentary with regard to all areas of activity within the orthopaedic.

The Trust currently serves around 1.8 million people in the region.

Shrewsbury Town Council formation

The formation of Shrewsbury’s Town Council will move a step closer when meeting of councillors takes place next week. Areas proposed to come under the new remit are the borough council’s horticultural service, The Quarry and community centres in Ditherington and Castlefields.

It’s also suggested the headquarters should be at the Guildhall in town, but this could prove too costly.
